How a pair of white trousers made me happy.

I ordered a pair of white trousers online.

They looked floaty and pleated and the exact summer outfit I needed, but I still hesitated.

Because for years I was told by almost everyone that I should not, or cannot wear white.

Sometimes it was very bluntly communicated to my face, sometimes a subtle remark about how plus size women cannot wear white.

Other times it was a much slimmer friend or family member complaining about how big they look when wearing this colour.

And I, three, four, sometimes five sizes larger than the person making this remark, internalised it and policed myself.

But I am done with all this internal fighting and struggle, especially over a pair of trousers that might not even fit right.

I finally decided to lay to rest all these negative voices that some are mine and some I picked up along the way, placed my order and now I am waiting for it to arrive feeling very proud of myself.

These are the little victories I learnt to celebrate and share.
